A New Chapter

Today is the first day of school for the '09-'10 school year. Abby is in the 4th grade and Amber is in 1st. We were blessed with great teachers, and both girls are excited. Henry still takes them in the mornings, but they will be riding the bus home, in the afternoons. This has the makings for a fantastic year.

I have been busy with Vacation Bible School prep for the past several weeks. The week finally arrived and tonight is our last night of riding waves on Outrigger Island. It has been a wonderful week, with an average attendance of 30 kids! God is good! Lord willing this will have been an instrument of growth for our church. In a few weeks the girls will start dance classes. They will both be taking tap, jazz, ballet and hip-hop. They are so excited. School will start before you know it and I'll be busy working. Better enjoy the summer while it lasts.

Vacation Has Arrived!!!!

I've been horrible about blogging! It's not that my life is boring. It's anything, but! I think my problem is that I have so many thoughts, jumbled all together, that I can't put them into words. This life (ministry) is a pretty hilly roller coaster to be on. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I don't. Thank God He is there on that coaster with me... otherwise, I'm afraid I'd fall off, or atleast be pretty scared all the time.

This week things are coming to a slow crawl. It will be a conscious effort to make it so! We are leaving today for vacation. Our first goal is Savannah, GA. We plan to eat at Paula Dean's restaurant tomorrow then travel on toward our ultimate goal Long Boat Key, FL. We can check in there on Saturday. After that it's chillin' on the beach til the next Saturday! YAH! One week of pure relaxation!

We have some pretty excited girls at our house right now. Henry and I just purchased Miley Cyrus Concert tickets. It's not til November, but I'm thinking it will be worth the wait. I know what the topic of conversation will be for the next few months.... and after. :)

First Day of Our Summer

Well, you can tell that school is out! Man, it's loud and busy around here this morning. I'm happy to report that Abby is doing okay after her tumble. Her little face looks beat up, but atleast that will heal. We're working around the house today, hopefully making the big move. Amber is halfway moved into her new room, and I have Henry's muscles around today to help me do the big things. Looking forward to tomorrow. We're planning on spending the whole day with Amber celebrating. First we'll stop at Monkey-Joes, then Chickfila and finally the pool. Lovin' Summer!!!!

It's pourin' again!

Progress on my "project" is coming along. I started on the office yesterday, but got interrupted when my helper (Abby) decided to turn a cartwheel in the garage and proceded to land on her face. After a trip to the urgent care, progress came to a halt. My nerves were so tore up I could hardly function. She's okay. The huge goose-egg is just a puffy bruise now, and her face is scraped, but healing nicely. Let's hope she sticks to the grass for future gymnastic attempts.

We are finished with awards for the year. Yesterday Abby raked in quite a few. One I am particularly proud of is the one for keeping A-B Honor Roll all year! She actually got A honor roll this last 6 weeks!!! Amber was terrific kid this month. This was a long time coming! After our horrible start to the year, she has really come around. She loves school now, and I just pray that this attitude continues when first grade rolls around.

Amber's birthday is Friday. We've already been celebrating with her school friends and my side of the family. I can't believe she is 6! We're going to try Monkey Joe's for the first time for her actual birthday.

Today I will begin again on my project. You just never know how much stuff you've got until you start emptying out a room. Lord, give me strength to accomplish something, and patience to not give up when the going gets tough. LOL

Started in the garage today. Man, what a bunch of stuff! I really need to clean out some boxes and get rid of some stuff, but these girls are ready for the big switch-a-roo. No time for tedious stuff. :) Now there is a place for the stuff in the office. Guess I'll have start there Saturday. Tomorrow we're having a little party for Amber at the park. Her actual birthday isn't until next Friday, but she wanted to invite the kids from her class and I thought this might help the attendance. She is really excited, and so am I. I can't believe she'll be 6 in a week! WOW! Time flies.

Summer... FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!

This summer is going to be like none other, around the Haney house. It's time for our girls to have their own rooms, so I think we're all just gonna switch. Yep, I told you it was like none other. Amber is moving into the "office"..... Abby is moving into our room.... and we are moving into the girls' room. LOL It's crazy, I know, but it really is the best way. The girl's room is the biggest. Yes, we're giving up our bathroom, but we'll have one in the hall. Of course, there has to be a method to this madness. We have to clean up in the garage first, to make room for the stuff in the office. It's gonna be one busy summer, but it will all be worth it. We'll also be spending plenty of time at the Aquatic Center. We love that place! Monroe Cinema 8 has free kids movies on Mondays and Tuesdays. Of course, there is our big whammy vacation, to Long Boat Key, FL, planned for July.

We're already counting the days! :) Our VBS at church is in August. Please join us for Outrigger Island!!! August 2-6th, 6:30-8:30pm, at Liberty Worship Center, Wingate, NC. Hope your summer is blessed as much as it is busy! :)

Persistence Pays Off

Substitute teaching can be a difficult job. You are the new guy. You know nothing about the teacher's style, let alone where to locate the stinkin' glue sticks! It can be very intimidating. At the same time it can be very rewarding. I have subbed for a specific teacher several times now, so I have gotten to know her kids pretty well. Several of these children have a reputation as "trouble". I will admit that they are rough on you, UNTIL you get to know them. Today I was rewarded. One of the "tough guys" was in the hallway, when I returned from the bus lot. I put my arm over his shoulders and said, "Did you have a sub today?" He put his arm around me, smiled, hung his head, and said, "Yes, mam". I laughed and said, "You don't sound too happy about it. Were you good?" and he looked at me, giggled and said, "Not really" I laughed and said, "You know you shouldn't be so tough on a sub, just cause she's not me. You're a mess. I love you though". He laughed and said, "I love you too." Though he mumbled, with his peers surrounding him, I heard every word!! And THAT makes me keep on, keepin' on!!!!

Time Flies

I can't believe that May is almost over. Things have been relatively normal around here. EOG's are coming to a close, so the last few weeks of school should fly by. I'm looking forward to spending the girls' field days with them. It's hot and tiring, but worth it. Since I have gone back to work full-time, the girls are even more excited that I am "taking a day off" to hang with them. Next week will be busy. I've already got jobs lined up for everyday. Thankfully it is local and elementary, so it should be a fun week. :)

This and That

I was a Spanish teacher again today. I graduated from colors and numbers, to clothing and fruit. I truely appreciate the person who invented hidden pictures and crossword puzzles. Substitute teaching is one thing in our lives that has remained constant. The extra income has been a blessing.

The girls are counting down the days, until school is out. Amber is already talking positive about 1st grade, so we're hoping that first grade starts off better than K5. Of course, EOG's loom over Abby. Please pray for her, as she deals with these pointless tests, that matter entirely too much.

Did you watch Amazing Race last night? I still can not believe that Jen stopped racing, with her opponents on her heels, to go to the bathroom. A million dollars on the line, and she stops to go potty! Are you kidding me?!?! For a million bucks I'd risk wetting my pants!

Kidfest '09

This past weekend we attended Kidfest in Charlotte, NC. We had a fabulous time! We praised and played. It was the best of both worlds. :)

We really enjoyed the music during worship service. The kids favorite was an artist named Burning Bush. He was very "cool", and his lyrics were packed with the truth. He was a very interesting character, and the kids were ecstatic to get a picture with him.

On Saturday we played at Carowinds. It was hot and crowded, but we had a great time. Some of our kids had never been to Carowinds, so it was awesome just seeing the looks on their faces. Before the day was over we had to find the water.

I don't plan on taking my girls back until Amber is atleast a foot taller. Poor kid just wasn't tall enough to ride much of anything. She was able to meet Dora the Explorer, though. All in all it was a great trip and the kids are already talking about next year!

When It Rains It Pours

So many things are going on, it would take too long to type about them. But one of the major issues is the fact that our car died. My little Honda will soon be laid to rest. Of course, it's had a good life, with over 200,000 miles under it's hood. LOL So now we're car shopping. That's always fun. Not. Henry's been doing his research, so I think we should be able to find something fairly easy. We are shopping Thursday (month end), so say a little prayer for us. :)

Kids are intimidating. Well, they CAN be! Today I was a Spanish teacher.... who knows no spanish. Atleast I do know how to count to ten, and early this morning, I learned my colors, before class. Of course, I already knew a few, but today I learned more. You may be laughing, but do YOU know what pink and purple are in spanish?!? Uh huh. I didn't think so. :) Often times, getting out of your box is a good thing. It's a good thing even when you look like a dumb bunny in front of children. Hey, they need to know we're human, right? It was a good day. My feet are killing me, but I made it. I survived, thanks to wonderful children, my love for them, coloring activities and a handy cheat sheet!!!! LOL

I have really enjoyed reading some of my friends blogs, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I would love to have my first blog be something profound and touching, but honestly all I can think about is closing my eyes, for just a minute. Hey, it's Sunday. It IS the day of rest. LOL In children's church we are studying Moses and today we found him standing before Pharoah, requesting that he release the children of Israel. Our memory verse was "A wise man listens to advice. Proverbs 12:15" . So take MY advice, follow the Haney House blog. You know you want to!o!!!
